Meera's Pov

After an hour of dance chaos, fake smiles, and uninvited flirting, my stomach decided it had enough.
It growled — loud enough to make Nisha snicker.

"Go grab something from the kitchen," she said. "You've earned it."

I didn't need to be told twice.

The kitchen was the only calm place in this entire wedding battlefield — the scent of curry, chatter of maids, and plates clinking softly. Heaven.

I opened the food tray, already eyeing the samosas, when Mumma's voice broke my peace.

"Meera!"

I froze mid-bite. "Yes, Mumma?"

She appeared in the doorway, all grace and authority wrapped in a silk saree. "Beta, take this plate of dinner to Nishant, please. He must be tired from journey and rehearsals."

I blinked. "Why me?"

"Because you're here."

"Mumma—"

"No arguments."

"But—"

"Meera."

There it was — the mom tone. The one that could silence earthquakes.

I sighed. "Fine. But if he says something annoying, I'm leaving."

She smiled sweetly. "I'm sure he won't."

Clearly, Mumma had never met Nishant Oberoi, Chief Annoyance Officer.

{ 💌 If you had to deal with someone like Nishant... would you survive or lose your patience? 😭 }

Nishant's Pov

I'd escaped.

Finally.

The crowd, the cousins, the endless dance instructions — it all melted behind me as I stepped into the guest room.
Quiet. Cool. Bliss.

I flopped onto the bed, loosening my shirt collar, and sighed. "London rehearsals were never this dramatic."

My phone buzzed. "Mom" flashing across the screen.

I answered. "Hey, Mom!"

"Beta! How are you? Did everyone recognize you?"

"Oh, they did," I said, grinning. "Especially Meera Kapoor."

There was a pause. "Meera Kapoor? The same one you used to fight with as kids?"

"The very one," I said, chuckling. "Still as dramatic as ever. We... reconnected. Over spilled coffee."

My dad's voice chimed in from the background. "You spilled coffee on her again?"

"Technically, she spilled it on me," I said quickly.

"Sure, beta," Dad said, laughing. "Just like last time."

I smiled, shaking my head. "You two better get here soon. It's too entertaining without you."

"We will there soon," Mom promised. "Behave till then."

"I always do."

Meera's Pov

I balanced the tray carefully, muttering to myself the whole walk down the hallway.
"Take dinner for Nishant. Make sure he's comfortable. Maybe polish his shoes next?"

I reached the guest room and knocked lightly.

No answer.

Great. Maybe he'd gone out. I could just—

The door swung open.

And there he was.

Relaxed. Rolled-up sleeves. Phone in hand. That same irritatingly confident smile, Bidga Raeez.

"Well, look who brought room service," he said.

I deadpanned. "Your ego's already full. These are just snacks."

Before he could respond, a woman's voice came through his phone.
"Nishu, is someone there?"

His grin widened. "Yeah, Mom — perfect timing. Guess who's here?"

I froze. Oh no.

He turned the phone toward me. "Look, Mom! It's Meera Kapoor. Remember her?"

I smiled awkwardly. "Aunty! Hello! It's so good to see you again!"

His mom's delighted face filled the screen. "Oh, Meera! You've grown up so much! I remember you used to chase Nishant with a stick when he teased you."

I smiled sweetly. "I still can, Aunty."

Nishant laughed. "She's not kidding."

From the background, his dad chuckled. "Beta, better behave. Or you'll get hit on day one."

"Already did," Nishant said. "With coffee."

I glared at him. "You deserved it."

"See?" he said into the phone. "Still blames me."

"Oh, you two sound exactly like when you were kids," his mom said fondly. "I'm glad you're meeting again!"

"Me too," Nishant said, shooting me a teasing look. "Though she pretends she's not thrilled."

"Thrilled would be an exaggeration," I muttered.

His parents laughed, clearly entertained. "Alright, we'll see you both tomorrow morning. Bye, Meera beta!"

"Bye, Aunty, Uncle!" I said quickly, giving a polite wave and trying to escape before Nishant started again.

But of course, he did.

Nishant's Pov

As soon as the call ended, I leaned back, arms crossed, watching her fuss with the juice tray like it had personally offended her.

"So," I said, "my mom already likes you. You sure you don't want to start calling her Aunty again? Or maybe Mom-in-law?"

{ 💌EXCUSE ME SIR?? 😳 What would YOU reply if someone said this to you? }

She nearly dropped the tray. "Excuse me?!"

I grinned. "Relax. I'm just trying to make small talk."

"You call that small talk?"

"Well, considering you started with coffee and shouting, this feels like progress."

She shot me a look. "You're impossible."

"And yet, here you are. In my room. With Dinner."

"That's because my mother forced me."

"Ah. Classic Indian mom move." I said.

I leaned closer, voice dropping mock-seriously. "She probably just wants us to bond."

She folded her arms. "Over Roti?"

"Stranger things have happened," I said. "Romeo met Juliet at a party. We've got Dinner. It's fate."

She laughed — a short, reluctant laugh that she immediately tried to cover.
"Wow. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard."

"Yet you're still smiling," I said softly.

She froze, her smile faltering. "You're reading too much into things, Oberoi."

"Maybe," I said, leaning back with a lazy grin. "But it's fun watching you pretend you don't like me."

"I don't." She shouted.

"Keep telling yourself that."

She huffed, turning away. "You're infuriating."

"And you," I said, "are way too easy to tease."

Her jaw tightened — but her eyes flickered, just for a second, and I knew I'd hit that line between irritation and... something else.

She turned toward the door. "Enjoy your snacks, Mr. Oberoi."

"Thanks, Miss Coffee Spill."

She stopped mid-step and glared. "Don't call me that."

"I will if you keep glaring at me like that."

"Goodbye, Nishant."

"Bye, Meera. Try not to miss me too much."

The door shut behind her.

I couldn't help it — I laughed, running a hand through my hair.

She was chaos. Beautiful, stubborn, infuriating chaos.
And for some reason... I couldn't wait to see her again.

Meera's Pov

As I walked back to the kitchen, tray now empty, I could still hear his stupid laugh in my head.

Why did he have to be so... smug?

And charming.

And—ugh—smiley.

I shook my head hard. "Nope. Not going there."

But somewhere deep down, I knew this wasn't over.
Because fate — or bad timing — clearly wasn't done humiliating me yet.

By the time I reached my room, I was ready to bury myself under a pillow and pretend the last fifteen minutes hadn't happened.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
Specifically, three plans — named Riya, Tanu, and Arjun.

The moment I opened the door, all three were sprawled across my bed like they owned the place — eating chips, scrolling on their phones, and gossiping like seasoned detectives.

Riya looked up first, grinning like she'd caught me red-handed.
"Well, well, look who's back from her special delivery."

I froze mid-step. "Don't start."

"Oh, we've already started," Tanu said, tossing a chip into her mouth. "So? How was your little date with the dashing Nishant Oberoi?"

"It wasn't a date!" I said, louder than necessary. "It was forced labor courtesy of Mumma."

Arjun smirked from the corner. "Right. And the reason your cheeks are all pink is...?"

"Because it's hot in here," I snapped.

Riya gasped dramatically. "Oh my god, she's blushing."

"I'm not!"

Tanu giggled. "You so are! Did he flirt with you again?"

I scowled, sitting on the edge of the bed. "He flirts with everyone, Tanu. It's like breathing for him."

Riya leaned closer, voice dripping with mischief. "Did he, you know... say something?"

I shot her a look. "He said something every ten seconds! The man doesn't have an off switch."

Arjun laughed. "Let me guess — you gave him your signature death glare?"

"Yes," I muttered. "Multiple times. Didn't work."

Tanu wiggled her eyebrows. "And you still stayed?"

"I was talking to his parents, okay? His mom called while I was there."

Riya's eyes widened. "You met his parents already?! Oh my god, Meera, that's basically a Rishta!"

I groaned. "Will you stop? It was a phone call! I just said hello!"

"Sure, sure," Arjun said, trying not to laugh. "First it's a 'hello,' next thing you know, we're dancing at your wedding sangeet."

I threw a pillow at him. "Over my dead body."

"Careful," Riya said with a grin. "That's exactly how all those romantic serial heroines start."

Tanu gasped. "True! Episode one: 'I hate you.' Episode ten: 'I can't live without you.'"

"I'm going to throw all of you out," I warned, grabbing another pillow.

"Fine, fine," Riya said, raising her hands in surrender. "But admit it — he's hot."

I hesitated for a millisecond — fatal mistake.

That was all the confirmation they needed.

Riya squealed. "OH MY GOD SHE DIDN'T DENY IT!"

"I didn't agree either!"

Arjun fell back laughing. "Oh, this is gold. I'm telling Nishant tomorrow."

"Don't you dare!" I yelled, chasing him around the room with a pillow.

He dodged, still laughing. "You're actually scary when you blush, Meera!"

Tanu was doubled over with laughter, and Riya clapped like she was watching a live show.

I finally threw the pillow aside and sat back on the bed, fuming.
"You all are impossible."

Riya grinned, sitting beside me. "No, darling. We're just observant. And from what we observed, you and Mr. Oberoi have some serious chemistry."

"Chemistry?" I scoffed. "Please. The only spark there is static electricity."

Arjun smirked. "Static or not, it's still making noise."

I glared at him. "Out. All of you. Now."

They exchanged knowing glances but obediently shuffled toward the door.
Riya stopped in the doorway, turning back with a wicked smile.

"Sweet dreams, Meera. Try not to dream about Mr. Room Service."

"RIYA!"

Her laughter echoed down the hallway as I threw the nearest cushion at the closing door.

I fell back against the bed, groaning.

{ 💌 We all need friends like this or nah? 😭}

This wedding was turning into an emotional boot camp — complete with unwanted partners, meddling cousins, and an infuriatingly attractive man who thought teasing me was a sport.

And the worst part?

It wasn't even the main wedding day yet.
